Work at Height Consultancy

The introduction of the Work at Height regulations 2005 brings in a single set of regulations to cover all work at height activities, not just construction.

The regulations require us to avoid work at height if possible, prevent falls if we do work at height, and mitigate the consequences or distance of any potential fall. There is also a requirement to consider collective protection over personal protection (guardrails are more significant than harnesses). Work at Height must be properly organised, planned and supervised by people who are competent and knowledgeable enough to select the safest solution.

Safety & Access Ltd is in a unique position. With nearly 15 years of experience of providing advice to clients on work at height issues, our services include:

  • Development of Work at Height specifications and procedure
  • Work at Height planning, co-ordination and supervision - including pre-contract planning of major scaffolding projects
  • Work at Height and/or scaffolding safety audits.
  • Training needs analysis

Scaffolding has for many years been an area of particular expertise and we have developed a number of services in this area:

Scaffold Inspections
Masonry Anchor Testing
Scaffold Design Service
Retained Health and Safety Consultants for Scaffolding Companies

Scaffold Inspections

The Work at Height regulations require that all scaffolds from which a fall of 2m or more can take place must be inspected before first use, after any damage and at least every seven days. Safety and Access Ltd offers an independent scaffold inspection service that meets these requirements. Our experienced and well trained personnel will provide you with the confidence will give you the confidence that we can carry out a thorough inspection every time.

Scaffold inspections can be carried out:

  • Weekly to comply with statutory duty
  • Handover inspections at the start of a project
  • Inspection at random to check that statutory inspections are being carried out to a satisfactory standard
  • One off inspection following a safety incident or dispute

Masonry Anchor testing

Many recent scaffolding collapses were caused by lack of scaffold ties or by ties into masonry not being adequate. The National Access & Scaffolding Confederation (NASC) technical guidance note TG4 recommends that scaffolds with masonry ties should be subject to a tie testing regime. Safety and Access can provide an independent tie testing service using our trained and experienced consultants.

Scaffold Design Service

The introduction of the Work at Height regs 2005, BS EN 12811, as a replacement for the now withdrawn BS5973 and NASC guidance note TG20 will impact on an increased requirement for scaffolding design. To meet this demand Safety and Access Limited offers a full scaffold design service to BS EN 12811, TG20 or the old BS5973.
